The Weekly Vibe ~ 16 to 23 May 2016

Interesting, I have a grand trine in water.

Jewel Starlight ~ Astrologer

The Earth Grand Trine energy continues from the previous weeks, offering a window of opportunity for us to take advantage of.  Grand Trines do not often last this long and is currently doing so due to Retrograde planets.  This big triangle of optimistic energy is from Mercury in Taurus to Jupiter in Virgo to Pluto in Capricorn… among other planets who are also close by.  With Mercury currently Retrograde, the key here is to learn what needs to change in your communication style in order for you to be happier and more successful.

But Grand Trines can make us lazy!  A study was done years ago on a group of homeless people’s astrology charts.  It was noted that those with Grand Trines had been given amazing opportunities in their life, born to wealth, educated, stable families, etc. but simply did not have the get up and go to make the most of themselves.  It was easier…

How is the green beauty movement shifting our beauty attitudes? Seven experts weigh in

I love and support the green revolution!

edible facial

What defines a movement? The dictionary says it’s “agroupofdiffuselyorganizedpeopleororganizationsstrivingtowardacommongoalrelatingtohumansocietyorsocialchange.”

If that is the definition, then there’s no doubt that green beauty has become a movement that is poised to make epic changes to the way we “do” beauty. It already is. What began as scrupulous attention to minimizing toxicity in our personal care products has gained momentum in other areas of our lives.

When we pause to consider the ingredients that are going on our skin, it tends to reflect other changes too.

Though we think of beauty as being purely visual, the ripple effect the movement is having spans to unprecedented changes in the way companies and consumers are making sustainable choices, impacting new legislation, and even coursing deeper—to the conversations we are having with ourselves.

The Weekly Vibe ~ 7 to 14 March 2016

Ever wonder what is going on and why?
Check out the Vibe by Jewel Starlight

Jewel Starlight ~ Astrologer

It’s all about Pisces, what with nearly half of the chart influences in the sign of the Fishes at some stage this week.  We also have a New Moon in Pisces on Wednesday at 12:54 pm which is also a Solar Eclipse and is in Opposition by nearly exact degree to Jupiter in Virgo. Phew! What does all this mean?  Expect the unexpected and the impossible to be made possible.  If you can dream it, you will feel as though you can also surely do it.

Pisces has the zodiacal trait of being the dreamer, but without dreams we would be forever stuck in a routine of every day the same reality.  Nothing would change because we would not have the imagination to see things differently.  So do not brush off intuitive thoughts, absurdly crazy ideas or the urge to attempt doing things in a new way.  With Jupiter’s exaggerated influence, you…

The Yearly Vibe ~ 2016

What’s happening for you this year?
Check out the Vibe and see.

Jewel Starlight ~ Astrologer

For Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn)

Jupiter is the only outer planet changing sign this year, and in September will move from Virgo to Libra and so will then be working in favour with you.  This will affect relationships, home life, appearance and your career.  Expect talk of marriage with an international flavour, a bigger home and an expanded family, an image make over, and your career finally on the track you have been heading for throughout all of last year.

Aside from Uranus, all of the outer planets are in the more highly evolved signs of the zodiac (from Sagittarius to Pisces) indicating the world, philosophy, humanitarianism, and matters involving the broader community will be of interest to you and in what you do.  On a more mundane level this will also concern travel, publishing, reputation, career and personal relationships.  Your thoughts of commitment will be acted upon, and in…

‘Sweet oblivious antidotes’? Lady perfume drinkers of the late 19th century

‘If you are observant, you will see any lady take her little ‘nip’ any afternoon at a matinee, or concert, or lecture. She opens her reticule, or, if too up-to-date for a bag, you will notice her frequent recurrence to the great pocket of her sealskin. From this she takes what you suppose to be a sugar plum or a cough lozenge. If you look closely you will find that it is a square of white sugar … My lady is about to take a perfume ‘ball’ right here in the presence of the audience and amid the glare of the incandescent lights. Another dive into the pocket and she brings forth a handsome, finely-cut crystal smelling bottle. … [S]he drops some of its contents on that square of sugar, and before you can say ‘Jack Robinson’ has popped it into her mouth, downed it like a Kentucky thoroughbred.’

Diseases of Modern Life

In the early 1890s several writers suggested that a new fashion was taking hold among the urban women of Europe and America: drinking Eau de Cologne. Stories appeared in both medical journals and popular newspapers of women ingesting perfume in various ways – from the delicate act of swallowing ‘a dose of cologne dropped on loaf sugar’ to the unrestrained swigging of whole bottles of 4711. Mirroring recent anxieties about middle-class drinking habits, doctors and journalists emphasised that these cologne drinkers were usually well-to-do, wealthy, and respectable members of the community, sometimes even members of London ‘Society’.

Strange as the practice seemed, for the woman who wished to drink, perfume was a practical choice at a time when it was less acceptable for her to enter a pub and order herself a brandy. Perfume was a substance that…
